海外に住むクライアントさんが、そろそろお菓子教室を再開しようと考えていた。しかし3年近くのパンデミックで、ちょっと弱気に。
最近、少し遠出して日本人の友達に会いに行ったら、「あなたのお菓子教室に参加したいわ！」と言われたり、「あなたのお菓子を私の日本語教室においてあげる」と言われたり、背中を押してもらったようだ。
A client living in another country was thinking about restarting her pastry classes soon. However, after enduring the pandemic for nearly three years, she was feeling a bit lacking in courage.
Recently, when she went a little further away to meet her Japanese friend, and she was told, "I want to join your sweets class!" and "I'll give your sweets to my Japanese class", it seems that the friend gave her a nudge.
そうなったらいいなと願っているけれど、彼女はなかなか勇気がなくて実行できずにいたことだった。しかし、本当にやりたいなら、ここはクリアしなければならない壁のようだ。壁の向こうの景色はどうなっているのだろう？

先週、私ははじめて自分からクライアントさんの住んでいるところへ出張する形で、セミナーを開催した。今までは、自分が東京に住んでいるから、クライアントさんが来るのを待っていた。もともと,、せっかちな性格だったため、「待つこと」も人生には大事なことだと思っていた節もある。しかし、今は待つことができるようになったのだから、そろそろ「自分から行く」を復活してもいいのではないかと思い、急遽、「全国行脚の旅」を思いついた。
Last week I gave a seminar for the first time on a business trip to where my clients live. Until now, I had been waiting for clients to come to me because I live in Tokyo. Because I have always been impatient, I had a part of me that thought that waiting was an important part of life. However, now that I can wait, I thought it was time to revive "go on my own", and I came up with the idea of a ”national traveling” in an impromptu way.
朝9時の飛行機に乗り、11時には博多に到着。丁度ランチタイムだったので、大阪のクライアントさんと、博多駅でとんこつラーメンを食べた。もうこれだけで、出張の素晴らしさを実感した。(笑)
I took the 9 am flight and arrived in Hakata by 11 am. It was just lunchtime, so I had tonkotsu ramen at Hakata Station with my Osaka client. This was already enough to make me feel that the business trip was wonderful. (haha)
九州セミナーには、大阪、神戸、大分、福岡のクライアントさんが集まった。オンラインではお会いしていたが、オフラインははじめてだ。オンラインではできないフィードバックが交わされ、「自分にとっての普通が、他人にとって特別」であることを、それぞれが発見するようなセミナーとなった。
The Kyushu seminar brought together clients from Osaka, Kobe, Oita, and Fukuoka. We had met online, but this was the first time face-to-face. They gave feedback to each other, which is not possible online, and the seminar was like a discovery for each of them that what is normal for them is special for others.
懇親会は、本場のもつ鍋を洗練されたレストランで頂いた。東京で食べたもつ鍋は、もっと庶民的であったが、高級感のある場所で頂いたもつ鍋は、お口の中でとろける美味しさだった。
The dinner party was held at a sophisticated restaurant serving authentic motsu-nabe. The motsu-nabe I had in Tokyo was much more folksy, but in the restaurant I had it in was a more upmarket place and it was melt-in-the-mouth delicious.
ホテルにチェックインをして、九州メンバーと一緒にZoomライブを行った。クライアントさんと部屋でお茶をするために、広い部屋を借りていたので、5人でも余裕の広さだった。いつもはひとりひとりだが、Zoomの画面に一同に映っている。飛行機でたった２時間でお会いできるのに、ここまで来るのに時間がかかった気がした。
I checked in to the hotel and did a Zoom live with the Kyushu members. I had booked a large room to have coffee and tea with clients in the room, so there was plenty of room for five people. Usually, it is one by one, but we are all together on the Zoom screen. It felt like it had taken me a long time to get to this stage, even though it was only a two-hour flight to see each other.
翌日は、たまたま数日前に美容室の電子書籍で見つけた「糸島」を観光すると決めていた。一瞬で、青い海と空の写真に心を奪われ、そのほかのガイドブックを見る必要もないくらい、キラキラしていた。レンタサイクルに、カキ。私の大好きなものばかりだ。ただ、自転車で周るか、車で周るかは、当日の様子で決めることに。
The next day, I decided to go sightseeing in Itoshima, which I happened to find in an e-book in a hair salon a few days earlier. In an instant, I was so taken by the pictures of the sparkling blue sea and sky that I didn't need to open that other guidebook. Bicycle rentals, oysters, all the things I love. However, I would decide whether to cycle or drive around on the day of.
当日、博多駅から電車で４０分ほどで、糸島に着いた。駅にレンタカー屋があり、そこの人に聞いてみると、現地の人は自転車で周らない！ということで、レンタカーすることにした。当日のレンタルは、カーシェアが便利とのことで、アプリで車を予約。駐車場へ向かうと、4台の車の中から好きな車を選べた。NISSANの水色の車にした。
On the day, I and my client arrived in Itoshima after a 40-minute train ride from Hakata Station. There was a car rental shop at the station, and when I asked the staff there, she told me that locals don't cycle around! So we decided to rent a car. We booked a car on the app, as we were told that car-sharing was a convenient way to rent a car on the day. When we headed to the car park, we had a choice of four cars to choose from. We went for a light blue NISSAN.
クライアントさんがハンドルを握り、私は旅のナビだ。iPhoneを牡蛎小屋にセットして、ドライブがスタートした。対向車がほとんど来ない一本道を海岸線に沿って走っていく。これ以上ないくらいの秋晴れの日。たった3日前に知った土地を思いがけずドライブをしている私たちに、笑いが止まらない。
With my client at the wheel and me navigating the journey, I set my iPhone to the oyster restaurant and the drive began. We drove along the coastline on a single road with hardly any oncoming traffic. It couldn't have been a more beautiful autumn day. We couldn’t stop laughing as we took an unexpected drive through a land I came to know only three days earlier.
マルセイユで見たような漁港。自分たちで焼くカキ、砂浜に聳え立つ白い鳥居と、その奥に見える夫婦岩、天然のヤシの木ブランコ、ブランコの目の前には、青い海が広がっていた。そう、私が欲しかった景色はこれだった、とそのとき気づいた。そこで見た景色は、自分で行ってみなければ想像もつかないものだった。
A fishing port like the one I saw in Marseille. Oysters we grilled ourselves, a white torii gate rising on the beach, a couple of rocks behind it, a natural palm tree swing, and the blue sea in front of the swing. Yes, these were the views I wanted, I realized at that moment. The view I saw there was something I couldn't have imagined unless I had been there myself.
