A client emailed me.
It said "I got really worked up at work today,
how should I deal with this issue?”
She messed up at work and her boss
questioned her closely about it
so she was worked up emotionally by the questions
and felt pretty stupid and then she lost her confidence.
I replied quickly with only one line,
that you should submit a concrete
improvement plan to your boss.
She replied "I could refocus and calmed down.
Thank you so much for your quick response".
When people make a mistake
we can assume that it is simply
an item for the future improvement.
Everyone screws up once in a while.
First she asked me how to deal with the issue
because she felt that was the problem.
However when people focus on a problem
it becomes more of a problem and
if I had done that I would have told her, you were wrong.
I thought she was encouraged by the comment
to focus on possibilities.
When we focus on problems without realizing it,
we get stuck on the telephone talking to the past.
Hang up on the past and call the future.
It's easy to connect the past and present
but actually if we plan a better future,
that future improves the present.
If we don't change the present,
the present can't change the future.
