Can you create something out of nothing? This is the essence of business.
東京もGo To Travelキャンペーンが始まり、両親も一緒に日本橋のホテルに宿泊しました。お得に予約でき、そのうえチェックインのときに、食事やお土産のクーポンも頂きました。東京人が東京に宿泊すると、観光客目線にも気づきます。
The Tokyo Go-To Travel campaign started and I stayed at a hotel in Nihombashi with my parents. I was able to book the best deal and also received a coupon for food and souvenirs when checking in. When a Tokyoite stays in Tokyo, I notice the tourist's perspective.
両親と現地集合しました。両親のほうが速くホテルに到着したようなので、先にチェックインしておいてとメールしました。その後、返信が来なかったので、どうしたのかなと思いましたが、25分で到着するのでメールせずにいました。
I was going to meet my parents there, but my parents seemed to arrive at the hotel faster than me, so I texted them to check in ahead of me. I didn't get a reply after that and I wondered what was wrong, but I didn't text them because I would get there 25 minutes later.
私がホテルに到着すると、両親が今、チェックインしているではないですか。
When I arrived at the hotel, I saw that my parents were now checking in.
「あれ？どうしたの？」
Me: Huh? What's going on?
「間違えて、マンダリンオリエンタルホテルに行っちゃったのよ。38階まで上がって、チェックインしょうとしたら、受付の人が名前が見当たらないというから、あなたとのメールを見返してみたら、違うことが分かって。そうしたら、マンダリンオリエンタルの人が、ここまで連れて来てくれたのよ。私、ボケている老人に思われたのかしら。(笑) 彼は中年で背が高く、日本人離れした風貌だったわよ 」
Mother : I went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel by mistake. I went all the way up to the 38th floor to check-in and the receptionist said he couldn't find my name, so I checked my email from you again and found out I was in the wrong hotel. Then the man at the Mandarin Hotel brought us here. Did he think I was a scatty old woman? (laughs) He was middle-aged, tall, and had an un-Japanese appearance.
「え！凄いホスピタリティー！ホテルの人、暇だったのかな。今度泊まりに行かないとね！」
Me : What! Great hospitality! I guess he was not busy. We'll have to go to stay there next time!
遠方のクライアントさんが、東京のクライアントさんたちに会いに行く計画を立てようとしていました。そこでふと提案してみました。「マンダリンオリエンタルの部屋に宿泊して、皆さんをご招待したらどうでしょう？ 皆さん喜ぶでしょうね！」と。クライアントさんは、一気にテンションが上がり、その場で予約していました。もちろん、私もお邪魔させていただきます！
A long distantance client was thinking about a plan to visit clients in the Kanto region. Then I made a suggestion: "Why don't you stay at the Mandarin Oriental and invite them all? They will be pleased!" The client was so excited and she booked it on the spot. Of course, I'll be there!
「無から有を生み出す」とは、こういうことです。マンダリンオリエンタルの人は、0円でセールスを作ったのです。そして私も、0円で部屋に入れることになりました！
This is what it means to "create something out of nothing". The staff at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was able to make sales for zero yen. I will also enter the room for zero yen!

母は日本橋界隈のことをよく知っていますから、「室町にあるホテルと言えば、あそこだ！」みたいに思い込んで、堂々と38階に上っていったのでしょうね。(笑) 逆に間違わないと、38階まで上がれなかったでしょう。
