昨日は箱根神社参拝へ行っていましたが、毎日のオンライン英会話レッスンも休まず受講しました。毎朝9:30のレッスンを予約しているので、チェックアウト前に部屋でレッスンを受けることをまずは考えたのですが、いつもお世話になっている先生ですので、この機会を生かそうと思いました。
ということで、まずは朝の7:30に動画撮影＆参拝をして、一度宿に戻って朝ごはん。そして、9:20にチェックアウトをして、9:30～英会話レッスンの時間をバーチャル参拝をお楽しみいただくことに。御朱印やお守りなどは、９時以降でないと開かないので、私も２回目の参拝へ行く必要性もありました。
いつもはiPhoneの画面越しにレッスンを受けていますが、今日は自撮り棒を使い、自然が背景です。芦ノ湖の静けさと、そこに佇む鳥居の姿は、先生にとっても驚きの光景だったようで、彼女の笑い声が画面を通して聞こえてきました。「WOW！！エ？ヒトミサン、ドコニイルンデスカ？」と。
箱根神社の鳥居を映したあと、御朱印を頂く列に並びました。先週、先生には「玉置神社の社務所は１人しかスタッフがいなくて、長蛇の列だった」と話していたので、先生は、「スタッフは一人だけ？大丈夫？」などと、笑いながら尋ねてきました。流石に箱根神社ですから、３名以上いらっしゃいました。しかし混雑時には45分の待ち時間になることもあるそうです。ですので、受け取り番号を頂いたあと、私たちは神社の長い階段を一緒に登りました。箱根神社の前に立つと、先生はスクショしてくれました。(笑)

私は朝に既に参拝を終えていたので、この時間は先生に「お願い事をしてください！」と言い、お賽銭箱を画面に映しました。バーチャル参拝できたようで、とても喜んでくださってよかったです！
習慣はやはり続けるためにあるものなので、何があってもどうにかするようにしています。そしてこれこそ生きた英会話です。私も箱根神社を英語で案内する機会を得ました。なぜ、鳥居が赤いのか？とか、あの白い紙は何なのか？など、質問に答えられないこともいっぱいあることにも気づかされました。日本人として当たり前すぎて、何の疑問にも思わないこともいろいろあるものだなと、国際交流をすると気づかされます。
このレッスンは、音声アプリに録音されているので、私も良い思い出となりました。
The Key to Continuing Habits: Online English Conversation @ Hakone Shrine

Yesterday, I was visiting Hakone Shrine, but I didn't miss my daily online English conversation lesson. I have a lesson scheduled every morning at 9:30, so initially, I thought of taking it in my room before checking out. However, as it was with a teacher I always rely on, I decided to make the most of this opportunity.
So, I first went for a video shoot and shrine visit at 7:30 in the morning, returned to the inn for breakfast, and then checked out at 9:20. From 9:30, I enjoyed a virtual visit during the English conversation lesson. The temple's stamp and amulets are not available until after 9:00, so I needed to visit the shrine a second time.
Usually, I take lessons through my iPhone screen, but today I used a selfie stick with nature as my backdrop. The serenity of Lake Ashi and the sight of the torii gate seemed to surprise my teacher, and I could hear her laughter through the screen. "WOW!! Eh? Hitomi-san, WOW!! Eh? Hitomi-san, DO-CO- NI-I-RU-N-DE-SU-KA?" she asked.
After showing the torii gate of Hakone Shrine, I lined up to receive a temple stamp. Last week, I told the teacher that there was only one staff member at the office of Tamaki Shrine and a long queue, so she asked with a laugh, "Only one staff member? Are you okay?" There were more than three staff members at Hakone Shrine, but sometimes the wait can be as long as 45 minutes during busy times. After receiving a waiting number, we climbed the long stairs of the shrine together. When we stood in front of Hakone Shrine, the teacher took a screenshot. (Laugh)

I had already finished my visit in the morning, so during this time, I told the teacher to "make a wish!" and showed the offertory box on the screen. She was very happy to have had a virtual visit!
Habits are indeed meant to be continued, no matter what. And this is indeed living English conversation. I also got the opportunity to guide in English at Hakone Shrine. Questions like "Why is the torii gate red?" or "What is that white paper?" made me realize there are many things I can't answer. Being a Japanese, there are many things that seem too obvious to question, but I am reminded of this when engaging in international exchange.
This lesson has been recorded on a voice app, so it has become a good memory for me.
