What It Takes to Achieve Your Dreams Without Hearing "That's Difficult"
Even if you have dreams, it's common for people around you to think, "That's difficult." When my niece was asked, "What do you want to be in the future?" and shared her dream, she was often told, "That's tough" or "You should think it over carefully," leaving her disappointed by the adults who didn't understand.
So, I said to her, "People tend to say that when you talk about your dreams. They just think it's impossible based on the current situation. That's why it's important to work hard enough to make them think, 'She can do it.'"
When I shared this with my mother and sister, they praised me, saying, "You didn't just sympathize. You gave good advice." (Laughs)
Two months after I conveyed those words to my niece, people around her started saying, "You're really working hard!" Even her parents began to recognize her efforts. I think having others believe in your dreams helps to harness external support as well.
Currently, I'm writing a story about an apparel store manager. The scenes so far haven't shown any signs of increased sales, but during a store managers' meeting, a veteran manager said something that almost shattered my dreams. However, another veteran manager who had once been the manager of a store in Shibuya encouraged me, saying, "Hitomi-san, you're doing what needs to be done, so you'll definitely increase sales!" It was the first time someone had said such a thing to me. Having even one person believe in me made me confident that I could succeed.
In other words, to achieve your dreams, it's important not to end with "I'm doing my best" but to work hard enough to make people think, "She can achieve her dreams because she's really putting in the effort." Once people start saying, "You seem like you can achieve anything," then you've got it made. (Laughs) What you believe in and what others believe in you can become a reality.
